Worcester Envelope Company

Here are a few helpful things about the world of envelopes that may make understanding our product line a little easier.

Envelope Size: Sizes should be expressed in inches starting with the smaller dimension first ( 6 x 9 or 9 x 12).

Envelope Style: The two basic styles are open side and open end.

Open side envelopes have the opening and the flap on the long dimension. Seam construction for open side enveleopes are usually either side seam as seen to the left or diagonal seam as seen to the right.

Open end envelopes have the opening and the flap on the short dimension. Seam construction for open end envelopes generally have center seams as pictured here, however, open ends can have a side and bottom seam and two side seam construction.

Flap Adhesive
is used to secure the flap to the body of the envelope.  Regular gum requires moisture to activate the seal, self-seal gum is applied to both the flap and back of the envelope and must be pressed together to seal, and Peel to Seal gum is a pressure sensitive adhesive applied to the envelope flap and covered with a protective strip until the envelope is ready to be sealed.

Window envelopes provide a convenient way to send pre-addressed letters, statements or other notices by showing the mailing address through the window.  Windows are available in many sizes and shapes and can be placed on the face or back of the envelope.

Window Specifications are very important to insure that information showing through a window is exactly what you want.  When measuring a window the flap of the envelope should always be positioned up ( as shown below).  For both a horizontal (1 x 4) or vertical (4 x 1) window measure the height first and then the length.
